Biography

In 2007, he graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Tsukuba. He is in the current position since 2015. He has engaged in translational research as a doctoral student at University of Tsukuba, and as a research fellow at Doheny Eye Institute, University of California – Los Angeles. Alongside his clinical duties as an ophthalmology specialist at University Hospital, he is dedicated to research and development aimed at overcoming eye diseases.

Research Outline

The eye is an organ for seeing, composed of soft, transparent tissues like the cornea, lens, and vitreous body that allow light to pass through. These tissues can deteriorate and become cloudy due to aging or diseases, which can lead to conditions resulting in blindness. On the other hand, thanks to the remarkable advancements in material science, materials that can replace these ocular tissues and those that allow for the sustained release of drugs have been developed. In our laboratory, we conduct research and development to clinically apply these materials for therapeutic purposes.

What is my goal as a transborder researcher?

The research and development that reaches patients requires collaboration with researchers and stakeholders from various fields, and needs to navigate through many processes. From the early stages of development, it is essential to have a clear vision for clinical application and to advance the research swiftly. We aim to foster the necessary collaborations with agility and create research that brings joy to all involved members. I aspire to be such a transborder researcher.
