Biography

Soichiro MATSUDA is an Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Human Sciences, and also Principal Investigator of Behavioral Design Laboratory. He received the B.S., M.A, and Ph.D. in Psychology from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, in 2010, 2012, 2016 respectively. He was awarded a research fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. From 2015 to 2018, he was a researcher at Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, University of Tsukuba. In 2017, he was a visiting scholar at Center for Autism Research, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
His primary research interests include early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder, using technology in intervention, and parent training with a particular emphasis on Applied Behavior Analysis. A special emphasis is laid on the design of human-human interaction by psychological and information technologies.

Research Outline

I aim to establish “Behavioral Design,” as a research field that aims to (a) change behavior using psychological and information technology, and (b) design the environment for supporting human-human interaction. Currently, we are conducting studies in the following three areas; (1) development of behavioral design techniques based on quantitative measurement of mutual interaction in natural developmental intervention settings, (2) behavioral modeling of language acquisition based on applied behavior analysis, and (3) development of training and consulting packages on organizational behavioral design in the business and education fields.

What is my goal as a transborder researcher?

While my research discipline is laid on applied behavior analysis, I collaborate with various scientists and practitioners including medical doctors, and engineers. To pursue applied and practical research that integrates new measurement and feedback techniques in order to solve real-world problems, and to discover new psychological phenomena are the most exciting activities for me. I aim to be a researcher who advances social implementation together with companies and organizations while advancing research to maximize “scientific excitements” for me.
