Research Outline

In living cells, enzymes—biological catalysts—are known to form dynamic assemblies called droplets. This study aims to elucidate the roles of enzyme droplets and uncover their “logic gate–like” functions, thereby revealing a novel principle for controlling intracellular metabolic reactions. Through a multifaceted approach combining live-cell imaging, in vitro reconstitution, and mathematical modeling, we define the droplet formation conditions as inputs, their physicochemical states as logic states, and their metabolic effects as outputs. Based on this framework, we will construct a hierarchical information-processing system driven by enzyme droplets. Ultimately, this research will pave the way toward artificial control of cellular metabolism through enzyme droplets—an approach distinct from conventional regulation based on protein expression levels.

What is my goal as a transborder researcher?

Sometimes, we need to think carefully and choose the right tools and disciplines for our goals. Other times, we simply need to act without thinking too much. I value both—intentional transborder exploration and open-ended curiosity—as I pursue new questions beyond disciplinary boundaries.
