Most deaf children are raised by hearing parents, leading to a “communication barrier” between them. Nonverbal communication with infants is crucial for language acquisition—whether sign language or spoken language—and for other aspects of development. To enhance the communication environment for deaf children, two key areas need attention: (1) at the micro level, enriching nonverbal communication between parents and children, and (2) at the macro level, enhancing social resources that support parents as well as children across society. My work focuses on basic research and the development of support tools by utilizing information engineering technology (micro perspective), alongside efforts to create environments where deaf children can thrive beyond home and school through the social implementation of these tools and international collaboration (macro perspective). I thus aim to dismantle the communication barriers between deaf children and their parents and create a “communication-rich environment for all deaf children.”
I aspire to be a researcher who collaborates with diverse experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to pursue a “communication-rich environment for all deaf children” and to advance its social implementation, starting with my own curiosity-driven research.
In Preparation.
